2015 NAKA Classic
October 17th 2015
The morning of the NAKA 2015 Classic turned out to be different than the previous NAKA Trail stops. 41 Anglers decided to battle the elements for a shot at the cash and prizes. The wind was blowing at a solid 5 to 10 mph with gusts that were most likely in the 15 to 20 mph range. Fog covered the water from prior to sun-up to about 3 hours after launch. Temperatures started in the upper 30’s and then quickly rose once the sun finally came out. All of these factors could not stop kayakers from bringing some quality stringers to the weigh in.
Our weigh in was held at Top O’ The River in Guntersville, Alabama. Although not normally open until 4PM, they opened up at 2:30 for us and had their kitchen ready to treat hungry anglers to fried fish and hush puppies that melt in your mouth. We had a great experience at Top O’ The River Saturday.
Let’s get to the results. Here is a PDF of the entire Classic Results.
Todd McBridge won 1st place in the event with a 3 fish stringer of 48.50″. Todd said it was his first Kayak Fishing tournament since he bought a kayak the week before the classic. That made the field want to throw up, but in the end everyone was happy for Todd and he got a pretty good round of applause as he talked about his day.
Todd’s 1st place showing gave him $260 dollars and a brand new Manley Rod. In addition, Todd ended up with the Big Bass on the day which saw him take an additional $180 for a total of $440. Not bad for a $30 entry.
2nd Place went to Bubba Jones who turned in an impressive string of 47.50″. Just 1″ off from tying Todd McBride for 1st. Bubba took home $155 in cash and a Hammer Rod from The Tackle Trap.
Here are the rest of the positions that took home money:
4 Byron Chapman 37.00″ – $80
5 Lane Dean 34.00″ – $65
6 Jonathan Lessmann 32.50″ – $50
7 Tyler Clark 32.00″ – $35
8 Zac Jones 31.00″ – $30
9 PJ Aguirre 30.25″ – $25
