Well, NAKA Trail Stop #2, Weiss Lake is in the books and many folks managed to figure out where the elusive fish were hunkering down, especially if your first name started with the letter “J”, but more of that in a few. Thank you all for showing up and fishing with us. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We started out Friday evening at The Cove by Riverside campgrounds cooking and telling lies. If you have never camped with us, it will amaze you how good the food is hot off the grill and the variety of fixings waiting to be consumed. It will also surprise you that after 9:30, only crickets, frogs, dogs, ducks, geese, and barking spiders are making noise.
We had a great turnout with 57 anglers all competing for a big cash payout and awesome prizes from our trail sponsors. Weiss Lake is a new stop on the NAKA Tournament Trail and turned out some great 3 fish stringers, inching anglers closer to an Angler of the Year title and a NuCanoe Flint from Fort Hampton Outfitters, LLC and an invitation to the NAKA Classic and the Big Green Egg from Allsport Powersports Inc.
Weiss fishing conditions were tough with muddy waters from the previous 5 days of rain, wind, and a cold front pushing through, but four anglers managed to find the right spot, right time, right presentation and took home some cash.
1st Place went to Jason Hopper with a three fish stringer of 57.75” and took home $630 in prize money.
2nd Place went to Jarret Floyd with a three fish stringer of 57.00” and took home $285 in prize money.
3rd Place went to Jared Atwell in a tiebreaker of his largest bass with a three fish stringer of 54.50” and took home $140 in prize money.
4th Place went to Robert Tucker with a three fish stringer of 54.50” and took home $85 in prize money.
Did you know that if you catch the biggest bass among all the 2018 trail stops, you would win a custom build rod from our Trail Big Bass sponsor, Osprey Rods?
Weiss Big Bass went to 1st place winner Jason Hopper with a 22.75” and took home $285 in prize money.
We could not put on such a great event without the best partners in kayak fishing.
Ethan Floyd, Daniel Clinton, Chris Padgett, and Chris Marks each won a $75 Gift Card from Leaf in Creek Earthpedition.
Kyle Anderson went home with an Angler Ace paddle from Bending Branches.
Zack Turner will be sporting a new NRS Chinook PFD from The Kayak Store.
Gary Strawder won a $50 Gift Certificate from HOOK1 Outfitters.
Randy Brown won a $50 Gift Certificate from YakAttack.
